Our activities in summary:
- Protecting the local environment
- There are some concrete things that every business in the city can do to improve the immediate environment. At the moment we:
- Minimise van journeys made on our behalf – making sure we only send a full van of boxes to archive and ordering stationery just once a week
- Choosing suppliers that use low emission vans, as our stationery and cleaning suppliers do.
- Encourage walking or use of public transport to get to meetings in London.
- Utilise the cycle to work scheme with improve bicycle storage and onsite shower facilities.
- Protecting resources and reducing waste:
- Control our energy use – all but a few of our lights are controlled by motion sensors
- Control paper use – our printer’s default to double sided, we mostly bill electronically, and we are no longer producing print versions of much of our marketing collateral.
- Our paper suppliers are FSC certified
- We donate unwanted furniture and IT equipment where possible.
- We mend broken furniture rather than replace it.
- Our tech suppliers operate under Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE guidelines) with old tech being diverted for reuse or fully stripped and recycled.
- Recycling and dealing with residual waste
- We provide adequate recycling bins and communicate correct use through signage and internal communications.
- We separate food waste and send it for anaerobic digestion.
- Residual waste is burnt in such a way to produce energy, and we have sent nothing to landfill since 2011.
- All of our waste is dealt with in plants in the UK.
- Supply chain
- We have built a network of suppliers that are as far as possible all ISO14001 accredited.
- Outsourced cleaning and catering workers are paid London Living Wage or more and we only use suppliers who have adequate HR systems in place and are committed to good practice.
