Indirect Representation

Representing our clients throughout the customs process, facilitating the seamless import and export of goods into the EU and UK.

Importing goods into the EU or UK as a non-resident business can quickly become complicated. Many freight forwarders and customs brokers will not accept the liability of acting on your behalf as an indirect representative, especially since Brexit increased the compliance and financial risks linked to international trade.

Our indirect representation service offers a compliant solution to move goods internationally without needing to establish a local company. We act as customs representative for our clients, helping you manage import formalities, reduce compliance risk, and keep your supply chain moving smoothly across borders.

FAQ’s

Indirect representation is a customs arrangement, most used in the EU and UK, where a customs representative acts on behalf of an importer or exporter.
Under indirect representation:

  • The customs representative submits declarations on your behalf
  • Both parties may share responsibility for customs compliance
  • Non-resident businesses can meet local customs requirements

In many countries, no. Non-resident companies often need a compliant customs representative to complete customs procedures legally.

An indirect representative is typically required when the importer doesn’t have a physical presence in the destination country and at import, a registered local company is required to appear on the import documents. For example, a business based in the US is looking to sell its goods on Amazon France but has no registered business in France (or the EU). To import the goods, an indirect representative (with an EU entity) is required to clear the goods.

New customs platforms and electronic filing systems can create operational challenges for businesses unfamiliar with local requirements. We can help you manage this.

With direct representation, the representative acts on your behalf only. With indirect representation, both parties may share customs liability.

We support our clients with indirect representation in Europe and the UK.

Our service isn’t limited to a particular product category. We can provide our indirect service to clients across a range of industries such as IT and technology, financial services, defence, energy, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, and retail sectors.

This is not an exhaustive list, so if you are operating in an industry not noted here, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
